Class Schedule

NRA Basic Pistol (BP) teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This class meets the requirements for several states to serve as training for Concealed Handgun Permits.

When you complete our Basic Pistol class you’ll be well prepared to take the second step in the NRA’s Personal Protection sequence: Personal Protection in The Home (Basic) or Defensive Pistol.

Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development.

We will take the time to allow you to learn the proper way to get started with your handgun.  This is a great class for new gun owners or for people who will be living in a household with handguns.

Class Description

Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.

NRA’s core Basic Pistol Course has six major parts. We enhance that core class for civilians who want to live responsibly while protecting themselves and their family inside their home. And we adjust according to the circumstances and enrollment in each class. Here’s the core:

1. Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling
2. Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
3. Firing the First Shots
4. Scoring Targets and Selecting and Maintaining your Pistol
5. Continued Opportunities for Skill Development
6. The One-Handed Standing Shooting Position

We take you as you are and bring you to the next level. Our Basic Pistol classes are relatively small. We provide individual instruction and give individual attention within the context of that small class. This is a great course for couples or families where one or more members are new to handguns.

This Basic Pistol class is required for you to take the next course in the NRA Personal Protection sequence: Personal Protection In The Home.
