LIVE READY – PERSONAL SECURITY FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
Sam Rosenberg & Norm Hood
“It’s good to have a lifeguard, but it’s better to know how to swim.”
This is a unique opportunity to learn and practice both unarmed and armed personal defense skills.
The world can be a dangerous place. And while personal security is a fundamental human need, it is ultimately a personal responsibility. In the moment of truth, the “lifeguards” of society simply won’t be there to protect us – whether from street crime or the potential of mass homicide. We are, in effect, on our own.
Yet violence is never random. Even the most desperate predator is careful in selecting his victims. And “bad guys” of all types – from the street criminal to the active shooter always follow a predictable continuum of behavior the elements of which can be identified—in advance—by easily spotted “indicators”—if you know what to look for.
Here’s a snapshot of what we will cover: (Sam Rosenberg morning sessions classroom sessions)
- How to recognize danger – specifically, how to recognize if you are being targeted
- How to recognize persuasion predators – masters of using charm and persuasion to create opportunities to victimize – as easily as a mugger wearing a ski mask.
- How to recognize and manage “interviews” that always precede an attack, to disrupt attack patterns before they can materialize
- How to use improvised weapons, such as pens, flashlights, and cell phones as powerful force multipliers to incapacitate an aggressor, without having to resort to deadly force.
- How to overcome paralysis and panic even in a critical incident, and the key to mastering your mind under stress—so you can always think, make decisions, and act
- When and how to use a remarkably simple gun disarm that works against handguns, and long guns, in defense of yourself or another, from varying distances and circumstances
- How to counter and defend against handgun disarms, from holster and deployment
- How to defend against a knife attack while getting unarmed, or as a bridge and transition to CCW
Here’s a snapshot of what we will cover: (Norm Hood afternoon range sessions)
- Firearm fundamentals (we can never get enough fundamentals)
- Close quarters shooting and shooting from retention (2 different ways)
- Movement to and away from an attacker
- Managing family members in a confrontation
- Getting off the “X”
