David Moll
Nebraska Shooters Instructor
Growing up in Minnesota, I was about 10 years old when I started hunting with my father, an avid duck and pheasant hunter. In order to go hunting, I had to attend a gun safety class at the local armory. There we learned the basics on gun handling and safety, which have stayed virtually the same as they are today. I still have the single shot 410 I started hunting with that I couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with, much less a fast flying duck.
My wife and I are both certified CCW permit holders and practice our privilege on a weekly basis calling it “date night”. There we shoot off about 100 rounds, and then using the two last magazines we’ll select a target, a distance and a caliber of pistol and have a contest on who has the tightest grouping. Whoever wins doesn’t pour the refreshments when we get home. I only win about half the time.
Instructing has been part of my career since the 1970s while in college teaching students how to fly. I’m retiring from flying a corporate jet in November of 2020, but over the years I’ve held a CFI (Certified Flight Instructor), CFII (Certified Flight Instrument Instructor) and an MEI (Multi Engine Instructor). Safety has always been paramount in my career, and in 2019 the FAA presented me with the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, for 50 years of dedicated service in aviation safety.
Presently I hold a NRA Pistol Instructor, a Range Safety Officer and a CHP Instructor Certificate so I can teach the Concealed Carry class. After I put the keys down for the jet, I’ll be able to take more classes to further my gun safety.
